9/1/83 A Soviet fighter mistakenly shoots down Korean Air Lines flight 007 after it strays into Soviet airspace, killing 269. George Shultz calls Tip O’Neill to tell him about the incident. “What does the President think about this?” asks O’Neill. “We’ll tell him when he wakes up,” says Shultz. I actually heard Michael Reagan talk about this incident somewhat convincingly on the radio not too long ago. This isn't an example of Reagan being unplugged or out of it so much as it is an example of the 'get it done' CEO mindset.
He definitely wasn't a micromanager!
