What about Hitler and Stalin?

Is it fair to project the sins of extremists upon the average (decent) believer?

Hitler played upon deep seated and prevalent strains of antisemism that were ingrained in German society and culture. (time magazine had same great photos of a third Reich Christmas party in Berlin circa 1942) When coming to power he played up the fear of Bolsheviks (Jews)to wipe out any opposition.
with Stalin he did not destroy religion he just replaced it with him self. In fact pogroms against Jews were quite popular in the nascent soviet union. It only became unpopular when the late night knocks on doors were not restricted to the chosen peoples
